Why Rahma

The Rahma Committee exists to ensure that every elderly member of our community, especially those who live alone or far from family, receive a caring visit, a listening ear, and practical support.

Social Isolation

Days go by without meaningful contact, and language barriers or miscommunication leave elders feeling unheard and disconnected.

Grief & Emotional Wellbeing

The loss of a loved one, paired with the absence of family presence and consistent healthcare support, often leads to grief and depression going unaddressed.

Transportation & Mobility

Elders depend on others for rides to Jummah, community events, and Eid festivals, limiting their ability to take part in communal and religious life.

Access to Daily Essentials

Limited mobility restricts access to groceries, healthcare visits, and everyday shopping, making basic needs harder to meet independently.

Access to Halal Food

Difficulty securing halal food creates an added barrier to elders maintaining their spiritual and dietary practices on their own.

Digital Safety & Community Connection

A lack of social interactions and get-togethers, combined with the risk of online exploitation, leaves elders vulnerable both offline and online.

An Array of Services

The Rahma committee serves our elders through two pillars:

Regular one-on-one check ins/care

  • Helping with acquiring food, medicine, household fixes, and safety
  • General wellbeing checks that focus on mood, needs, and any concerns

Community gatherings that bring them back into the fold

  • Rides to Jummah, EID prayers, and community events and gatherings.
  • Flagging and attending to urgent follow ups in case of emergencies
